New Delhi, September 2
The CBI has filed a lawsuit against one Lingareddy Rajasekhar Reddy for allegedly posting defamatory material against High Court and Supreme Court justices on social media, officials said Thursday.
The agency had registered a case on November 11 last year against 16 defendants and had taken over 12 FIRs from the CID, Andhra Pradesh, by order of the High Court of Andhra Pradesh.
It has been alleged that staff in senior positions in Andhra Pradesh intentionally targeted the judiciary and posted derogatory messages on the social media platform against judges following certain verdicts handed down by judges of the High Court of Andhra Pradesh, CBI spokesman RC Joshi said.
He said the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) removed the objectionable posts from social media platforms, public domains, and many of those posts and accounts were removed from the internet.
The agency filed its indictment in a competent court in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh.
“During the investigation, the said accused was arrested on July 9, 2021 in Cuddaph (Andhra Pradesh) and is currently in police custody. Searches were also carried out in the residential premises of the accused in Cuddapah, which made it possible to recover the incriminated documents, ”added Joshi. PTI
