PBS Media Literacy Educator Certification Academy

Now more than ever, educators need support in digital media literacy skills, both in remote and traditional classroom settings. Ohio Ed Techs join KQED to share PBS Media Literacy Educator certification with educators in this series of professional learning courses. Classes are open to all Ohio educators, including K-12 teachers, librarians, TOSAs, and anyone interested in making media-rich and digital learning available to students. The Academy will give you the skills and experience you need to bridge the dots between digital citizenship, media literacy, 21st century skills and national curriculum standards and to prepare you for PBS certification. Media Literacy Educator. Graduate credit is available from Ashland University for an additional fee.

Please note that each individual is responsible for obtaining their PBS Media Literacy Educator certification. This Academy will provide all the necessary information, as well as support during the development of the artifacts, which must be submitted for approval by the certification agency.

Educators can attend one, all, or any combination of Academy courses. Each class meets twice; the first day covers the content of the course and the second day is a working session. The working session is only required for those seeking graduate credit. Registration is compulsory for all courses.

Schedule and courses:

  1. Launch of the PBS Media Literacy Educator Certification Academy: 10/5/21 and 10/12/21, 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

  2. Critical Media Analysis: 3/11/21 and 9/11/21, 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

  3. Create media for classroom use: pictures, graphics and interactive elements: 12/21/21 and 12/14/21, 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

  4. Assessment of online tools for classroom use: 04/22 and 01/11/22, 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

  5. Online information assessment: 02/22 and 02/22, 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

  6. Create Media for Classroom Use: Audio and Video: 1/22 and 03/08/22, 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

  7. Implementation of media projects: 5/4/22 and 4/12/22, 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.

  8. Student media evaluation: 10/5/22 and 5/17/22, 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
